What Is KVKK? Obligations Every Organization Must Know

KVKK is the short name of Law No. 6698. The law defines how personal data is collected, stored and transferred. The Personal Data Protection Board issues administrative fines to organizations that do not comply.

Quick Definition

Law No. 6698, which regulates personal data processing in Turkey. It sets disclosure, security and notification duties for data controllers.

Why Does It Matter?

Fine amounts rise each year with the revaluation rate. For data security violations, the 2026 upper limit exceeds 17 million TL. A violation also causes reputation loss and audit workload.

Core Principles & How It Works

1Disclosure: The person is told why and how their data is processed (Art. 10).
2Data security: The controller takes the necessary technical and administrative measures (Art. 12).
3Registration and notification: Obliged organizations register with VERBIS. Breaches are reported to the Board.
Primary Enterprise Risks

What Threats Arise from Inadequate Protection?

  • ✕An employee sends a customer list out by email or USB.
  • ✕Nobody knows where personal data is stored. This causes inventory and disclosure gaps.
The Moftgate Approach

How Does Moftgate Solve This Challenge?

Moftgate DSPM discovers and classifies personal data on endpoints and servers. DLP blocks unauthorized exit of that data. The platform produces evidence reports for audits. Data stays on your own servers.
